MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT to outside systems, which lets associations use AI with live AMS data instead of uploaded spreadsheets. Novi Connect is Novi AMS's MCP connection. Its tools let an AI assistant look up a member, list members by status or expiration date, pull event details and registration numbers, and run queries that combine membership and event data. The AI tool chooses the right tool for each question, so staff simply ask in plain language.

AI drafts board reports best when it can read current results from the AMS alongside the strategic plan and prior reports, so staff spend their time reviewing and refining instead of compiling numbers. In Novi AMS, staff can use Novi Connect to ask Claude or ChatGPT to create a board briefing from current membership and event data, compare registration and attendance for the last three annual conferences, or measure membership and event trends against an uploaded strategic plan. Because the data comes live from Novi, the briefing reflects today's numbers rather than last month's export. Staff should verify every figure before the report goes to the board, because AI can still misstate numbers.

An association can safely give AI tools access to member data by checking four things: the connection is read-only, each person signs in through the AMS, existing staff permissions still apply and model training is turned off in the AI account. In Novi AMS, Novi Connect's tools are read-only by design, so an AI assistant can retrieve information but cannot add, edit or delete records. Every connection goes through the association's own Novi login, including multi-factor authentication when enabled, and access follows each admin's existing Novi permissions. Novi recommends a paid AI account, where model training can be turned off.

Each fits a different job: a built-in AI assistant is fastest for quick answers while working in the AMS, and a connected AI tool suits longer work done where staff already write and plan. In Novi AMS, Novi Navigator answers questions inside the admin and can open the right page or filter a list. Novi Connect brings the same live data into Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP-compatible tool for projects such as event reviews, candidate profiles for a leadership slate and advocacy preparation before legislative meetings. Connect does not replace Navigator, and both draw from the association's monthly Amplify credits.
